The Liberty of Worshiping Almighty God

"The liberty enjoyed by the people of these states of worshiping Almighty God agreeably to their conscience, is not only among the choicest of their blessings, but also of their rights."

Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday and a Few Good Quotes

American Minute
"We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence."-MLK, Jr.

Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated APRIL 4, 1968.

Pastor of Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist Church, he rose to national prominence through the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

Awarded the Nobel Prize in 1964, Congress set aside his birthday as a National Holiday.

Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., as well as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, were influenced by the German Confessing Church leader Deitrich Bonhoeffer, who resisted Hitler's anti-Christian totalitarianism.

Rev. King was also influenced by the non-violent methods of India's Mahatma Gandhi who resisted Britain's centralized big government.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., said August 28, 1963:

"Now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of God's children...

In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds.

Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.

We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence....

Tangled Webs...

"Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive!" wrote Sir Walter Scott in his poem "In Marmion" (1808, canto VI, stanza XVII).

On AUGUST 19, 1785, Thomas Jefferson wrote to Peter Carr:

"He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual;

he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world's believing him. This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good dispositions."

A Proclamation

By the President of the United States of America.

A Proclamation.

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies.

To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.

In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.

Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore.

Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consiousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom. No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things.

They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People.

I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.

And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the City of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the Unites States the Eighty-eighth.

By the President: Abraham Lincoln

On Liberty...

"Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood."
— John Adams , in A Dissertation on the Canon and Feudal Law, 1765

What Happens When You Remove the Bible (1776)

"By removing the Bible from schools we would be wasting so much time and money in punishing criminals and so little pains to prevent crime. Take the Bible out of our schools and there would be an explosion in crime."

— Benjamin Rush, elected to Continental Congress in 1776

Break...FO: R2D2 and a WIM: Link

I have an FO (Finished Object) although it's incomplete in the picture:
It's not my best work, I made this in less than 2 days, and I worked those days and took care of the family. Still, not so bad, not so bad! The recepient is a 10 year-old Star Wars fan, so I made him this R2D2 hat. Here it's missing a few more appliques.

My WIM (Work-in-Mind) is Link:

You can find the pattern here: http://tanoshimou.wordpress.com/2010/05/27/link-legend-of-zelda-amigurumi-free-pattern/

My son likes this game a lot, at least, he used to, and said he would hang one on his backpack if I made it for him. Well, that was months, maybe more than a year ago. I rediscovered this pattern and have the yarn. I just might. Well, I gathered the yarn, despite having UFO's around. Sometimes I can't help myself!

He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord;
and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

On The First Amendment...

“To those who cite the First Amendment as reason for excluding God from more and more of our institutions and every-day life, may I just say: The First Amendment of the Constitution was not written to protect the people of this country from religious values; it was written to protect religious values from government tyranny.”

— Ronald Reagan, March 15, 1982,
in an address to the Alabama State Legislature

Foreboding Warnings from Forgotten Inaugurals

The 20th Amendment changed the date of Presidential Inaugurations to JANUARY 20th. Prior to 1933, March 4th was Inauguration Day.

FOREBODING WARNINGS FROM FORGOTTEN INAUGURALS

WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON,
MARCH 4, 1841, INAUGURAL:

"I too well understand the dangerous temptations...

Limited as are the powers which have been granted, still enough have been granted to constitute a despotism if concentrated in one of the departments....particularly...the Executive branch...

Nothing Much and an Interesting Quote

Nothing much has been happening here... It's raining again, and we are closer to the end of hurricane season, which is November 30th. Thank God we haven't fared too badly this year, and no direct hits, either.

The US had another election, and I'm afraid of the consequences to individual freedoms, which Americans have been losing slowly, especially during the last 4 years. Not good.

The Island also had an election, which was won by "voting against-" instead of "voting for-" which is not a good thing, although in the case of the US, it might have been a good thing. The new governor is there, and we must pray for him, likewise the president of the United States of America, we must also pray for him, and pray for those who surround him, that they will make right decisions, and not just something to cater to a very vocal and $ powerful minority.

On the homefront, I didn't kill the peppermint, it must be a hardy herb since it's thriving, despite ME! The pineapple plant is also thriving, another puzzler. I hope to find a safe source of chicken. The Gold Kist chicken, sold at Costco, is making me itch terribly, and I feel miserable. An herbalist said that if you eat food that makes you react, it will weaken your immune system. So, I'm looking for Empire chicken, unable to find it. I don't think I can have chickens here myself, the smell of the feathers isn't good for me.

I'm going to try some millet flour, see if I can gain some weight, I'm too thin at 103 lbs... yikes! WHY do they have to put corn in everything?

“It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often
that this great nation was founded, not by religionists,
but by Christians;
not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ!

For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum,
prosperity, and freedom of worship here.”

— Patrick Henry
