Happy with a new car and sundries

Son #1 bought a new car. It's all his. Well, his and the bank's! haha!  I'm proud of him and thank God that he's able to pay for it. Here he is, looking at me like, "Mom, really? Taking a picture of me? Really?" He had just got home from work and come to raid my fridge again. I don't mind at all, it means I get to see him.

Today is a very windy day, and I wish I were at the beach. I just finished working, and unless there's some document to proofread, I'm free to do the odds and ends I'm always promising myself I'm going to do "tomorrow".  Praise God that I can do some housework, and hopefully, prepare some dinner tonight, probably soup, for the menfolk. I'm blessed!

Plus tonight is the Bible teaching, very happy about that. We're studying Psalms, and it is NOT easy, so much more when you get into the history and the meaning of the original Hebrew.

Back to checking emails, in case some new work came in and then off to do a Tomorrow Chore.

Proverbs 4

Willowmarsh

1 Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, And give attention to know understanding;
2 For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law.

3 When I was my father's son, Tender and the only one in the sight of my mother,
4 He also taught me, and said to me:
"Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commands, and live.
5 Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
6 Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you.
7 Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.
8 Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you honor, when you embrace her.
9 She will place on your head an ornament of grace; A crown of glory she will deliver to you."

10 Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, And the years of your life will be many.
11 I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths.
12 When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, And when you run, you will not stumble.
13 Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; Keep her, for she is your life.
14 Do not enter the path of the wicked, And do not walk in the way of evil.
15 Avoid it, do not travel on it; Turn away from it and pass on.
16 For they do not sleep unless they have done evil; And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence.

18 But the path of the just is like the shining sun, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.
19 The way of the wicked is like darkness; They do not know what makes them stumble.

20 My son, give attention to my words;
     Incline your ear to my sayings.
21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart;
22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.
23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.
24 Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you.
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you.
26 Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established.
27 Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.

Just another blankie...

Nothing much going on here. I finished this crochet blankie and gave it to my doctor's secretary. She looks so young and small... And she was so surprised to receive it. What a smile! :)  I started another one, made with leftover yarn, so it will be smaller, and in muted colors.

Mom is watching Fantasy Island. She used to forget the name and call it "Fortune Cookie" but that was a few decades ago.

Right now I'm listening to Abiding Radio, seasonal, which is currently playing patriotic music:

The tropical storm that was passing by, well, passed by, and is now Hurricane Matthew. I pray there are no more casualties. Always sad to hear. Hope it just blows into the Atlantic without doing any more damage.

My Danny Boy announced he's "coming around dinner time, Mom. That doesn't mean you have to make any!"
(He's always so considerate and doesn't want me to overdo or anything.)
"Dan, I think I'll make-"
"You don't have to make any, don't worry!"
"... rice with vienna sausage and diced ham, and some beans," continued his mother.
"See you at dinnertime!!!!"
(I knew that would hook him! hehe *=)) rolling on the floor )

I'm also starting this course:
Supreme Court Lecture 1 - Hillsdale College Online Courses

 So far so good! :)
Have a great weekend, people.

Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise:
and he that shuts his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday and a Few Good Quotes

American Minute
"We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence."-MLK, Jr.

Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated APRIL 4, 1968.

Pastor of Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist Church, he rose to national prominence through the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

Awarded the Nobel Prize in 1964, Congress set aside his birthday as a National Holiday.

Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., as well as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, were influenced by the German Confessing Church leader Deitrich Bonhoeffer, who resisted Hitler's anti-Christian totalitarianism.

Rev. King was also influenced by the non-violent methods of India's Mahatma Gandhi who resisted Britain's centralized big government.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., said August 28, 1963:

"Now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of God's children...

In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds.

Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.

We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence....

Healing the Broken Hearted

Psalm 147:2-3
The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers together the outcasts of Israel.
He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds.

~~~
If you are reading this, then you are probably curious if I am going to explain this or write out a homily.  I am not.  If you have a broken heart, read it again
And then again.
Sophronismos
For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power,
and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:17
=======================================
We often hear or read this verse, and most of the time, we linger at the first part, that God has not given us a "spirit of fear, but of power."  This world is obsessed with power.  But, I myself am more interested, at least these days, in the last part, that God has given us a spirit of a sound mind.  Let's take a look at this:
The Greek word for sound, as found in our verse is : Swfronismovß
The transliterated version (what it would look like in English) is: Sophronismos
According to a Bible dictionary the definition of sound, as it applies to this verse is:
   1. an admonishing or calling to soundness of mind, to moderation and self-control
   2. self-control, moderation
In another dictionary I was looking at, sound means in good condition, not damaged, injured, or diseased; competent, reliable.  Let's remember that we mean reliable and competent in a biblical sense, not as the world might see it.  The world, since it has decided that there are no absolutes, will change definitions to mean what they WANT them to mean.
This soundness of mind, this ability for self-control, for moderation, for resisting temptation, for making wise choices, for resisting impulses and instead choosing what GOD would choose, comes only with daily exposure to the Word of God, and daily "without ceasing" prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ.
It's part of your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, where, through His Holy Spirit, He teaches you, through His word, and through your obedience, to have a sound mind.  The Lord has indeed given us a spirit, NOT of fear, but of power, of love, and yes, of a sound mind.
When My Eyes Are Weary...
Image from listenersbible.com
but I still need God's Word, I go here:
http://www.listenersbible.com/devotionals/listen
I find I need to feed my body with food, feed my soul with the beauty of God's creation, and feed my spirit with His Word. It's only then that I am COMPLETELY nourished.
