This is a doily that my aunt gave me... Her name is Petra. When she married a Dutch man, someone from his family gave this to her, and now I have it. I'm the only one of her family who crochets, and can appreciate the work that went into it.
When we stayed at her house two summers ago, I saw it and admired it, it was such a lovely and curious thing. I'd never seen a doily put into a ring like this. She told me that someone from the Netherlands gave it to her, and this must have been about 40 years ago. I thought it was a treasure and she impulsively gave it to me. This is something I'll give to my own daughter when she marries.
