Yarn From England, with Love

Here's the yarn that Maralyn D. from England sent me. I've never had such a fine yarn, but am at a loss of how to use it. I only know that I would like a pretty shawl to go with some black clothes I have.

The white fuzzy stuff there is really like a rainbow, not white. The yarn looks better in person (how can a yarn be in person, though?) than in photos, and is thick in some places and lots thinner in others. So, I am thinking of combining it with Lustersheen acrylic to make it more manageable.

Thanks for looking.

New Crochet WIM

I am thinking about buying this leaflet only for the sake of the cover cardigan. There's something about it that draws me, and I know I'll look nice in it. Why? Because, when "I feel pretty, O so pretty!" then I *look* pretty. :)

I've Known That "Global Warming" Is a Scare Tactic, But Now...

I've known for some time that so-called "Global Warming" is not true, in the sense that it is being promoted (please forgive my English here), but now I'm reading that other people, deciding not to bow down to the politically correct pressure of climatic alarmists, are also being vocal about it.

Here's an article to consider:

I am actually old enough to remember the panic about the coming Ice Age and wondering as a child where in the world could we live, since I hated the cold and "didn't want to die". Do some research, and check out what many scientists are saying. Celebrities, well, that's what they are, mostly because they sing, or act, or are rich, or talk a lot on TV, but that does not mean they are experts. It only means they are passionate, for the moment, about what they are talking about.

Thanks for reading this.

"BEFORE" Pictures of My Garden

So, this is what's left of my garden, if you want to call it that. Ever since I've been working, and the despots I call "family" don't let me use the large pick (term in English?), my garden has just deteriorated terribly

And this is what I call "jungle grass". I dont' know the correct term for it, unless it's "grievous nuisance." I was pulling some out and now I am itching all over. This grass has tiny hairs, that will stick into you, much like cactus thorns, if you don't know how to pull it out correctly or don't use gloves. I know how to pull it out correctly, so I didn't use gloves. But, I totally forgot myself and one little moment of forgetfulness is costing me now.

The way to get it out is either to wash your arms with warm water, and then use a washcloth gently with the grain of the hair follicles or to put tape or glue, wait for it to thoroughly dry, and then pull them out. Fun fun fun...

You can't tell, but there are Bromelias in bloom in there.

This is what's left of the lemon tree, and another we call "café de la India" which translated would be Indian Coffee. It's not coffee, that I know. Those are ferns down there, which I never planted. I think they are visiting from my neighbor's back yard.

I've nothing to say about the next two pictures...

Lady, as always, hangs around just in case someone wants to pet her. I usually don't because I am The Cook, and I've no penchant for Chile con Carne with dog hairs... (Ugh!)

So, these are the "Before" pictures. I'm hoping that at some time this year, there will be some nice "After" pictures.

Thanks for taking a look.

Annie's Attic Free Pattern of the Day Has Changed Sites

It used to be that Annie's Attic had a free pattern-of-the-day for us, but you won't find the old page now. Instead, go here:

You'll have to register, but the patterns are free. I'm thinking that perhaps they want to keep some sort of track of who downloads their patterns and which patterns are the most popular, since they are asking us to register and downloading a pattern means downloading in pdf form.

Enjoy!
