Found Some Crochet At Mom's

This is a dishcloth I made for Mom some years ago. I asked her, "Mom, aren't you going to use this? It IS a dishcloth!" and she glibely answered, in a sort of sing-song way, "No!" and smiled. What can I say? It's back to the basket with the dishcloth, that will never be used as such. I don't remember where I got the pattern from.
Here's a thread coaster I made for my Mom, too. It also has never been used. It just stays in the basket where the dishcloth is, too. Well, at any rate, she doesn't use it to dust the furniture nor has she thrown it away. I once made a beautiful lacey washcloth for her and she has never used it, either.

As I have often said, "There's a lesson to be learned here, if we could only figure it out!"

I Like Daschunds!

I'm a sucker for any cute hotdog pictures... :)
This was sent by email, so I don't know who the credit belongs to.

Last 3 Edgings for the Crochet Cornflower Blankie

Here's the shell edging someone suggested. It's nice, but it feels very heavy here.

The yellow and blue double crochet edging.

Single crochet yellow edging.

I'm thinking of adding perhaps a white double crochet edge, and then something with color, too. I won't post that here, though. Please leave a comment so I can have them all in the same place and see what you all are thinking. Some people have already emailed their favorite edging, too, with comments. You are all very helpful... ¡Thanks!

Children's Book

So, I just found a group of stories I wrote for my kids in 2003, called "Charles and Me". I had to smile, because at bedtime my kids, and the youngest is now 15, always wanted a story, either read or made up by me.

I had special stories for them, with characters that were similar to them, and I so enjoyed seeing their faces when they realized the story was about THEM! Their eyes would become so bright and then they'd smile and laugh and say, "Mom! You're telling about US!!!" Of course, I would say, "No, this is about Tommy, Timmy, and Tina, not about you three." I guess the twinkle in my eyes always gave me away. angel

So, when someone from Crochet Partners, Dori Chaconas, I believe her name is, posted her site, which is about writing, I got to wondering if I should publish my stories. Actually, I am wondering if anybody would care to read them at all. whistling I only wrote them for my own children.

I'm writing them out again, correcting a few things, and going email them to one of my web email addys so I don't lose the work.

WIP: Crochet

Just something I'm making for an internet friend who is going to have a baby girl. I've already done the sole of the first and am making the sole of the second. I take turns with each bootie so that my tension is similar and I don't end up with a small baby bootie and one for an Army troop!! :D
Algo que le estoy haciendo a una amiga del internet. Ya hice las plantillas del primero, y estoy haciendo la plantilla del segundo, para así la tensión sea igual.... No quiero tener uno que sea para una beba y el otro que le sirva a un soldado!!

Billy Graham: The Early Years

I don't know much about this gentleman, but the movie seems interesting. I don't go to the movies, so I'll have to wait for it to come out on video.

Crochet Baby Blankie Almost Finished

So, I'd taken a break from the blankie repair job I'd been doing, and decided to make something just because I wanted to make it.

:)

And here it is...

Here's a better view of the corner and the center.

Can you tell that the flowers are made with popcorn stitches? I don't like popcorns. The interrupt my crocheting. They are in the same league with pineapples...

I joined the border with a half double crochet. I didn't like using white, it really needed color there. A whip stitch looked bad, and so did slip stitch, single crochet, and double crochet joining. So, even though I rarely use it, and certainly not for joining, I used the half double crochet. It looks nice. It gives it a relief from the flatness of the piece and didn't show any white stitching on the opposite side of the stitch, which is what happens when you use the other stitches.

And now, I don't know how to finish it. Should I make a border with white yarn? Blue or yellow? A combination of these colors? This is like playing chess. I do well until the end, and then I don't know what to do. A friend suggested doing only a white single crochet border.

Please leave your comment here and help me out! Thanks!

Lots of rain in PR yesterday

Yesterday, coming home from church, we saw a very large blackish-gray cloud over parts of my town. When we got close to the International Airport, the sky started to fall! One of my sons took a few pictures from a cell phone camera...
...then he gave me the phone and asked me to take a picture to show how little could be seen. This was surely a gray day.
View from the side of the car.
When we got home, we found that the creek had overflowed the bridge. I just KNEW this would happen one of these days, and it did. How did I know? Well, the town mayor got impatient one day and had the municipality widen the bridge, which was good. The BAD part was that they only allowed 2 large pipes for water flow under the bridge. I've lived here for 22 years and know how that creek can grow. Those holes weren't going to be enough to hold the water should the ground become saturated and lots of rain were to fall. And so, it happened.

The water was started to recede when we reached it. It was about one foot over the bridge, or maybe 9 inches. We went over anyway, because this is a vein of the main creek. Had it been the main creek, we would have headed over to my Mom's house for a while, I think, to wait for the waters to go down.

Can't imagine how Noah felt, waiting for a world flood to go down. And this was not even because of a hurricane. What was left of Tropical Wave Josephine had already passed us, although I might be mistaken.

Wowsers!

Crocheted pants and hat for a man? I've seen everything. Here's the source:

:D

Seriously, he likes it, so why should I mind? He's not harming anybody. I wonder who taught him to crochet...

Sweater Dresses With Crochet Details

Check this dress out, it has crocheted details here..

It's a Soggy Day in Puerto Rico

Well, I thought that Hurricane Hanna was gone, but it seems to have taken a liking to The Hispaniola. We're getting a LOT of rain here because of it, with gusts of wind and rain reaching us periodically. I truly thank the Lord Jesus Christ for sparing us the hurricanes!!!

Today is a good day to take out some crochet and make a shrug I promised Crochet Partners I would give a try. I already have the paper ready, to draw up a diagram. I'm using a different size yarn, and would rather do it with a paper diagram than try and figure out the math. Although, using math isn't such a bad idea...

Here's the shrug I already started making:

and here's the picture:

too bad I won't look like that when I'm done and try it on, haha!
