Jan. 18 - Daniel Webster "if we recklessly destroy the Constitution..."

One of the five greatest Senators in U.S. history, the State of New Hampshire placed his statue in the U.S. Capitol's Statuary Hall.

His career spanned almost four decades, serving as Secretary of State for Presidents William Harrison, John Tyler and Millard Fillmore.

His name was Daniel Webster, born JANUARY 18, 1782.

From a New Hampshire farm, he attended Dartmouth College and became the highest paid attorney of his day.

He fought the slave trade and negotiated the Webster-Ashburton Treaty, which set the nation's Northeast boundary.

When South Carolina threatened nullification, he stated:

"Liberty and Union, now and forever, one and inseparable!"

When asked what the most profound thought was that ever passed through his mind, Daniel Webster responded:

"My accountability to God."

Daniel Webster warned in his 4th of July Oration, Fryeburg, Maine, 1802:

"We live under the only government that ever existed which was framed by...deliberate consultations of the people.

Miracles do not cluster. That which has happened but once in 6,000 years cannot be expected to happen often.

Such a government, once gone, might leave a void, to be filled, for ages, with revolution and tumult, riot and despotism."

Addressing the New York Historical Society, 1852, Daniel Webster stated:

"If we and our posterity...live always in the fear of God and shall respect His Commandments...we may have the highest hopes of the future fortunes of our country....

But if we...neglect religious instruction and authority; violate the rules of eternal justice, trifle with the injunctions of morality, and recklessly destroy the constitution which holds us together,

no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity."

WIP: Crochet Piggies.

This is my WIP this week..

Mom came home one day from church with a piggy, which belonged to a lady from her local group. And she asked me to make a pig for Maria. Well, I found pattern and Mom liked it, so I'm making it. I can't say I am enjoying it, but it means a lot to Mom, so if it's important to Mom, it's important to me.

I'd rather be working on my Heritage dresses, but this, well, I don't know how long Mom will be with us.

Eddie took me to the beach last Sunday so I could breathe clean air. The wind was coming straight from the sea, not from the sides, and no one was very close for me to be contaminated with the fumes that their lotions and laundry detergents give off. It was peaceful and I wish I could have stayed longer.

It was blue skies to our left, and the rain coming in from our right. And the roaring waves from the north. We were at Piñones.

I wonder if we are going to be the last generation that actually writes handwritten letters to others. Emails are fine and dandy, but receiving a letter in the mail is great. I prefer to type, though, because of the pain my tendons get when I write, but there's no substitute for someone's personal touch.

Just things I've been thinking lately. Back to the Future III comes to mind, when Doc states, and the others laugh, that in the Future, people will walk for entertainment or exercise, something like that, instead of just to get from one place to another.

I'm almost finished with a crochet coaster for a CAL. It's designed by Mary Lynn Oswald. I know that snowflakes only have 6 points and this has 8, but I'm not tell it, YOU can't tell it, and the coaster is useful and decorative. ;) I might make more.

The Most Important Day of My Life

I remember the happiest day of my life, my Wedding Day. I have pictures, physical pictures to remember it, my wedding ring, my shoes and my groom. :)

But, the most important day of my life, I can't remember it. I do know that in 1982 I started a new life in Christ, I became a believer of the Lord Jesus Christ. I think it was in February, but you see, I didn't "feel saved" or anything that a lot of people say. I do recall that at some point I felt peace, a wonderful peace despite all the problems that I had that year, which were many, and I won't go into that right now.

But, it was the most important day of my life, because I started a new life in Christ, a believer, saved by grace alone, because I believed in His promise of eternal life in the Son. I can't remember. Maybe February 5th or 7th. I threw out my diary, in a silly imitation of my twin sister, who decided to do away with all of the old, so she threw hers out, gave away or threw out her records (there were no CDs back then), therefore I can't pinpoint the day, I had written it down, though. But it was 1982.

So, I have happy memories of the happiest day of my life and live the Eternal blessings of the most important day of my life.

Eye Headache

So, when you dry your face, you are supposed to pat it dry. If you rub it dry, which I tend to do, what happens to me is that I often, too often, hurt my corneas and they swell.

Most of the time a little bit of ice for 15 minutes on and off for 3 or 4 times will bring down the swelling, but last night it didn't happen. It's like I cannot pinpoint the part that is swollen, so I've had a headache that aspirin and Tramadol cannot contain. Contain? Subdue? Are headaches "cured" or do they "go away"? What is the correct term?

So, any lucid comments that are left here are clearly not intentional, since I can't seem to think straight.

I don't nec. agree with everything, but in a media world where everything seems to be biased toward squashing anything and anybody that doesn't agree with them, read "intolerant", "bigot," etc. Which is sad. Because, if I have to tolerate YOU, but you refuse to tolerate my beliefs, then there is a double standard happening here. And there is.

So, go ahead and read and laugh and cry a little, as we lose our liberties, little by little, so slowly that you won't notice it. But please, compare the state of our country, how kids even get suspended for displaying an American flag, to how it used to be in the "good ol' days" just 15 or 20 years ago. Not really long ago, now was it?

This is Missy. She leads a dog's life. I don't particularly like cats and this one especially irritates me, but since Honorable Son#2 loves her and adopted her ("Everybody here has a pet except for me!") I tolerate her presence inside my house.

Today I'm resting since I did housecleaning throughout the week. I'm practicing my Hebrew, and just doing odds and ends here. Nothing much happening here, except for more rain, but thanks to the Good Lord, the tropical storm that originated off the coast of Africa is now a hurricane about 100 miles away from the island. And the creek level is growing, but not dangerously, I hope. I hear thunder, too, but it's far away.

Just another uneventful day in my life. I don't mind them.

...and we can feel the bands of winds coming. It's already affecting the eastern part of the island and we are expecting hurricane-force winds in most if not all, of the island. I can hear the creek above the clamor of birds screeching and screaming next door, and the tree frogs are unusually quiet. I do hear a few, but they seem to be paused, cautious, as if waiting for something, just as we are. The "reinitas" or warblers, as my sister Nelly tells me they're called, are also quiet, but they usually settle down during the late afternoon.

This is no Hurricane Hugo, thanks to the Lord, and we have water, candles, supplies, and food. Now I am hoping that my Eddie will come home soon, since he went to my Mom's house to help close the windows that are stuck open.

I pray all children are home safe, and that the homeless, likewise, are in shelters or at the home of a friend or sympathetic stranger.

Corn-free Girls Can Cook, Too

So I've been searching around for recipes that are corn free and decided to try this one:

Changes for myself:

1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
Whole wheat pastry flour

Topping:
1/3 cup of white sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

I started to feel just awful right before add the wet ingredients to the dry ones and the family sent me to the room, turned the air conditioner on, and I had to recline here. So, Honorable Son #2 and a friend of his, along with Delicate Flower, finished preparing the cake. I was able to take it out of the oven, though.

It's good.

Not as moist as I would like, so next time I will add a little more butter to the recipe and find some safe brown sugar for the topping. I don't know if I will dare use apples, since they are so full of pesticides and corn-based wax.

I don't react as terribly or violently to corn as some people I am acquainted with over the internet, but ingesting corn or corn-derived products make me ill. So, I'll have to think hard about the apples. Maybe a mango topping or fresh pineapple would be nice or better yet, pineapple upside-down cake!!!

The War of 1812 began on JUNE 18, 1812.

The British captured American ships and enslaved sailors.

They incited Indians to capture Fort Mims, massacring 500 men, women and children. They captured the Capitol, burnt the White House, bombarded Fort McHenry and attacked New Orleans. Outraged, many volunteered for the Army, including Davy Crockett.

In his Proclamation of War, President James Madison stated:

"I do moreover exhort all the good people of the United States...as they feel the wrongs which have forced on them the last resort of injured nations...to consult the best means under the blessing of Divine Providence of abridging its calamities."

In the three years of the War, President Madison, who had introduced the First Amendment in the First Session of Congress, issued Proclamations of Public Humiliation and Prayer in 1812 and 1813, followed by a Proclamation of Public Fasting in 1814, in which he stated:

"in the present time of public calamity and war a day may be...observed by the people of the United States as a day of public humiliation and fasting and of prayer to Almighty God."

After the War, in 1815, James Madison proclaimed a National Day of Thanksgiving to the "Divine Author of Every Good and Perfect Gift."

I Am A Baby...

I am a baby.

I've always been a baby. I'm the youngest of 5 children. And of the 5 children, I am the youngest of the twins. Everybody has always babied me. So has my husband and even my children, when they see me fall apart because of frustration over the pain I feel in my body since 1991.

And now, I have a corn allergy. Or intolerance. I tend to think it's an allergy because I get headaches, itchiness and sometimes The Invisible Hand grabs a hold of my throat and squeezes slowly...

Still, having been a "baby" all of my life, I am now finding myself in a sense, alone. I have to find new foods, a new way to live my life, and although I have a wonderful support in the Avoiding Corn Forum (those people are real bricks, the salt of the earth), I'm in this and if I don't do it, no one will do it for me.

It's a new way of life, I'm not used to not eating what the rest of the family is eating or going where they are going. I'm not used to this and something in me is rebelling with all of my fibre.

*sigh*

And then, when the tears start to gather in my eyes, and my throat tightens, I remember, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

That's in Hebrews... a Wonderful Word from the Lord Jesus Christ. If I believe Him, then I should not be fussing. Oh Lord, forgive me for my unbelief!

Disappointed in The Doctors TV

I am watching a taped program of The Doctors TV. Normally I like it, but this episode is disturbing, because Dr. Lisa stated,

"In the 1900's we didn't have contraception and STD protection so you really had to wait. Now women are sexually liberated and this is a good thing, it's a positive thing for our intimacy later on."

A little later she added,

"When a girl wants to have sex, she should feel that that's a good thing, and not that she's a "good girl gone bad."

This is all wrong, in my opinion. I think sex should be reserved for marriage, marriage to a man, and THAT is when she and her future husband should give up their virginity. It belongs to your future spouse. Every time you have sex, you are giving of yourself to someone. You are becoming one with that person, and you give up a part of yourself with that person.

We treat sex so lightly, so flippantly, instead of treasuring it as a gift you are saving for your spouse.

After watching this program, I am so disappointed. The audience applauded, but honestly, it was not as enthusiastic as it usually is. Don't encourage girls to have sex when they think they're ready. As a mother, I wouldn't say that to my daughter. What if she thinks she's ready when she's 12? Do I give her a condom, talk to her about the so-called "safe sex" which isn't really, and then let her go off, because she thinks she's ready? Her brain hasn't finished developing, even at 15. Teens change their minds almost daily, and unless her parents are willing to risk their daughter getting an STD, lack of self esteem, raising a grandchild or two or three as their own, so their own kid who isn't finished cooking, can finish school, then they should talk about abstinence. There is something wonderful when you follow God's plan for sex. After all, He created it, He invented it, so anything He cares to say about it is worth paying attention to.

And that's all I have to say about that.

The Yellow Dot program is designed to help crash victims, especially seniors, communicate with rescuers during the crucial "golden hour," the first 60 minutes after a serious crash that can make the difference between life and death for the critically injured.

It is simple but effective: Participants in the free program receive a yellow dot to place on their rear window; it alerts emergency services personnel to look for a corresponding yellow folder in the glove box. That folder contains a photograph, their medical conditions, prescriptions and other vital information.

In Alabama, the program started in Etowah County in 2009; by June, it will be operating in 27 counties.

"There's a lot of interest from two different groups," says Lora Weaver, program coordinator for the Northeast Alabama Traffic Safety Office, who is adding two or three counties a month to the program.

"The residents of the state … realize the importance of it, particularly someone with a lot of medical issues. The second group is the first responders, because they know when they arrive, if the person is unable to communicate, they know they can go to the glove compartment and get the information they need, and they can do it immediately without wasting a lot of time."

About 30,000 to 40,000 Alabamians are enrolled.

The nation's first Yellow Dot program began in Connecticut in 2002. Yellow Dot programs, with slight variations from state to state, are in counties scattered across at least eight other states: Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Virginia, Alabama and New York. Georgia is among other states considering the program.

"It is very nice to see innovative programs to address the unique risks associated with older Americans and car crashes," says Peter Kissinger, president and CEO of AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. "Since older individuals tend to have more medical conditions, are on more medications and are generally more fragile, this sounds like a well-justified program, especially in light of the growing number of older Americans."

"It's a promising approach," says Jonathan Adkins, spokesman for the Governors Highway Safety Association. "Actually, this is one of the goals of automated crash notification systems. Eventually, when there is a crash, these key data such as medication needed will automatically be available to EMTs, etc. The Yellow Dot program may be a system that can be helpful in the meantime."

Traci Pondick, 47, of Rainbow City, Ala., swears by it.

Her husband Marc's parents, Norman and Ping Pondick of Southside, Ala., enrolled in Yellow Dot soon after it began in Etowah County. Several months ago, Norman Pondick, 83, was driving alone in his pickup when he swerved to avoid hitting a car that had stopped in front of him. He left the road and hit a tree, lacerating his head.

"The first responders saw the sticker and immediately pulled the folder out," says Traci Pondick. "They called Marc. They were worried about the cut on his head."

Norman Pondick was air-lifted to University of Alabama-Birmingham hospital in Jefferson County. The family drove there.

"When we went back to see him, the nurse held up the Yellow Dot folder and said, 'Where did you get this?' Yellow Dot was not in Jefferson County at that time. I told her about it. She said, 'This is the best thing I've ever seen.'"

Norman Pondick soon recovered. Traci Pondick got her mother to enroll.

The news is, there is no new news. I'm about the same, semper eadum, which is a good thing, in the sense that I am no better, but I'm no worse, either.

Mom is better, though. She is walking down to the end of the street, twice, as her daily exercise. She has done this 3 times all ready, by herself. I think she's proud of that. I'm very glad that she's more strong. Mom does seem to be moving here, slowly but surely. She goes home and comes back with more stuff, and never mentions going home again. That's okay with me. I just worry I can't cook every night on account of my health, but then she can make herself a sandwich, which is okay.

I'm tired, all the time. And sleepy. And tired. But, I can function. We lose things, little by little, and life is scary with the unknowns, but I can feel (not sure I should use the word "feel"), or perceive a Tower, of Strength. I cannot really say I feel God is here, but I know He is here, which is more important than any feelings I may be experiencing. I'm so glad it's not about my feelings, but about the steadfast Lord Jesus Christ, in my life, and knowing that beyond there is Something Better for me.

Still Here, Sometimes

Dear Friends,

I'm still here, I read or skim over your posts, too. I have been taking care of my mother and trying to take care of myself. I am ill, the doctor does not know what it is, the pain is, most of the time, unbearable, and pain medication does nothing. I cannot sit up for long, either, which is why you all haven't seen any activity here for a while.

specifically, the studies of the book of Romans. I've also been trying to modify my diet somehow, since being VERY allergic to corn limits what I can eat, and Dr. Paisan told me that I have anemia. She's trying to figure out where the deficiency is coming from. In the meantime, I am trying to eat more food that contain iron and vitamin B.

I am also "praying without ceasing" not only for restored health for myself, but for my friends, family, anybody who needs prayer for health, salvation, etc.

Well, that's about it. I miss "playing" with you all, but life just tosses you things sometimes, unfair, but my goal, the Lord Jesus Christ, and my eternal home are a comfort to my heart.

Starting on the Crochet Baby Dress

I'm finishing the yoke, and soon will start on the skirt. This is the first of the baby dresses I'm planning for the Heritage Chests I'm hoping to fill up for each of my children. The doilies are already done, only need blocking.

Next, baby booties, and then the afghans. I think that finally I will make copies of family pictures for each of them, and write a personal note.

I don't know what else to add to the chests, except that they might want to fill it up with things they want. Any ideas?

Daisies are Flowering Again

They seem to flower every few weeks, which makes me happy. :)

I only bought nuts: hazelnuts and pecans. No other corn free food. That will have to wait until tomorrow or Monday, on account that Fresh Mart is closed and I was too tired to go after grocery shopping.

Shopping for the family is expensive, especially when the Danny Boy is home. He doesn't stop eating and he's so thin!

The Thing about Death

The thing about death... when you're a child, you're shielded from death. People "go away" or "are asleep" or they "went to Heaven."

When you're older, in your teens, in your twenties, it's something you don't want to think about, you shy away from it, it's something far away that you don't want to touch.

Then when you're older, you realize that it touches you, that your older family members are gone, they are dead, that your father is gone, although not completely gone because others who loved him remember him and in this case, he is indeed in Heaven.

But death reaches to you when you're older, it strikes you, and the grief sort of never leaves you. You forget it for a while, but then another friend of Dad dies, and then the sadness renews itself into your heart. The band of four friends, Martin, Dad, Junior and Chu are gone, they are dead.

What do you say to someone whose father or grandfather died? You want to clean and bind up the wound, but you yourself have one. At times like these, there are no words.

I will take my silence with me to the funeral and just be there and speak whatever the Lord God puts into my mouth.

has been not good. I had to take my husband, Eddie, to the ER because he had another heart episode. The danger is not tachycardia, nor arrhythmia, but that a clot could loosen because of the force of the heart beats and give him a heart attack. I barely slept and Eddie was exhausted. Well, both of us were and are still. But we are home, thanks to the Lord's mercy, which endures forever.

This lovely doily is a pattern designed by Denise Augostine, and my daughter just likes it so much, and so do I. I just want to make one for myself, and one for each of my kids, so that we are linked, so to speak. I know it's sentimental, but I hope they appreciate this.

Another Earthquake Here on the Island

But the government is saying there is no need to panic, but, because the quake was on the land and not in the ocean, that there is no tsunami threat. It was 5.4 on the Richter Scale and reached 350 miles around the island.

I thought my son was ramming the glass sliding door with the car, but the car was not touching. My daughter said, "No Mom, it's a quake! " I was surprised, because I didn't feel it at all, but I certainly HEARD it and it shook the glass very hard.

What a Day: Carjacking, A Criminal, and Someone "Stole" My Pattern

What a day it has been. I've been on the go practically all day long:

1. Preparing for the two kids I tutor.

2. Checking emails for my boss, in case a referral came in.

3. My daughter hurt her foot, specifically her big toe, and it might be fractured.

4. I witnessed the ending of a carjacking. The man who stole the car, with an infant in the back seat, ending up in my street, and he obviously is not from around here, because it's a dead end street. I must have seen around 30 police cars tonight, plus the SWAT Team and even National Guardsmen. They even went through the car port to the back yard to inspect and make sure it was clear.

5. I thought the night would end well, but as I was checking out crochet in web pages and web blogs, I found that someone copied my Half Granny Square pattern, called it a Granny Shawl, making a few little changes here and there, and perhaps convincing herself that she had changed it enough to "make it mine" as I've often read people's writings when they try to justify such as act. Incredible! I wrote this pattern out in 2001, the latest, and anybody who cares to investigate can verify its existence at archive.org.

She copied it, word-for-word, then inserted some things, or changed the position of some of the phrases, but I can recognize my patterns ANYwhere. After all, I wrote them out.

I do NOT claim to be the inventor of the half granny square, granny triangle, whatever you wish to call it. I *am* however, the copyright holder of the instructions I wrote out, my own instructions, and they are written in my own style. This is the 3rd time it's happened, and what bothers me a lot is that it seems she has a link for it in Ravelry and is claiming a copyright of 2009.

This has been a long day. And a long night. I'm ending it, so far, disgusted at this fellow crocheter.

I am SURE that everything that happened would have happened anyway, but I would feel differently if I had started my day as usual, in Bible reading and prayer. My heart would be calm, I would have reacted differently to the carjacking (the carjacker was actually at the side of my house, trying to get in or something, at the window) and my heart would not be fluttering right now because of the sadness  and hurt  and betrayal  I feel because someone stole my pattern.

There are two good things to remember from this day.

First: Little Joseph, the boy I tutor, has been a live wire this past week , but today he behaved rather well, and spontaneously burst into song, and I knew it and we were singing it together, which we both enjoyed.

Second: I sent some yarn to an internet friend, and he received it today and was so happy that I would do this for him, and was crazy about the color. That made ME happy!

Third: I sent my oldest sister the essay that my daughter wrote about our dad, and she was glad, it made her see things a little differently, and just helped her.   That made me happy.

If you're wondering that I said two things and wrote three, well, that's just the way it is. I told Fearless Boss that he hired me because of my proofreading and organizing abilities, NOT because I'm good at Math!

And so ends my day, now more calm since I've been able to vent and unload on the shoulders of whoever cares enough to read this.

Finally, I am going to end this day, although it is now Saturday, 1:14 AM, the way I should have started it, and will find the peace and guidance I need.

Once Upon a Time... We Had a Daddy

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a term that has increasingly become the moniker everyone uses to describe the mental breakdown people experience when all is stripped away. Problem with mental disorders is, you never know when and how they'll strike. No one is immune to PTSD or any mental disorder; just so happens that military men and women are more susceptible to it. The mind is man's first and last defense and once that is gone…

After I wrote this first paragraph, I was staring at my computer screen mumbling to myself. My mom, seeing me stressed asked me what was the matter. I explained what I was trying to write about, how I had to write an essay about PTSD and that I was getting nowhere really fast.  Mom got this faraway look in her eyes, which prompted me to ask her what was wrong. Instead of answering, she proceeded to tell me a story, just like when I was little.

"Once upon a time, there was a loving husband and soldier who had four daughters and one son. They called him Daddy. He was well liked by all the kids in the community; he was the only father who would race the whole lot of them. There would be kids on bikes and skates, tall kids on foot all wanting to beat Jose's father, but, he always won the race.  His kids all loved him dearly and loved to eat anything he cooked especially his cheese soufflé, according to the youngest.

One day, Daddy was called to serve in the Vietnam War. His wife and children missed him very much and would love sending him letters and pictures and eagerly awaited his replies. They would daily march to the mailbox and see if a letter had arrived. Little did they know the difficulties, the hardships this man faced.  The war eventually ended and the President called his Soldiers home. But not all was as it should have been. When this Soldier came home this family received him at the airport, he had retired from the ARMY. There was a change in him, but it wasn't an immediate transformation, though he certainly looked like Daddy. But it seemed as if a stranger had taken his place, and the family quickly found that their father was forever altered. Little by little the changes came and the happy family began to feel them. Daddy became "Dad" and nothing anyone did was good enough or made him happy.

"The eldest daughter became rebellious and ran away, the second became extremely reserved and anti-social and to this day, barely speaks to the rest of her family. The son was forced to grow up too fast because "Dad" demanded a perfect son even though he himself was faulty. Meanwhile, the two youngest daughters wondered where their daddy had gone. Their older sister always explained, "Daddy went to the War and a monster came back", and that was the way it was. Many years passed and tragedy struck, they called it Leukemia and no one could do anything about it. Before he died though, daddy made his peace with God. The youngest daughter tried to go see her dad at the V.A. hospital but she didn't make it in time. "I've lost my daddy twice", she sadly said, "I lost him to the Vietnam War and I lost him to Leukemia."

More than twenty years have passed since my grandfather died, and I cherish the stories of when "dad" used to be "Daddy," I keep his medals and his final discharge papers in my drawer as cherished heirlooms. Every time my mother sees a soldier she smiles at him, thanks him for his service and says "God bless you." And, whenever we hear "The Star Spangled Banner" she stands up, hand over heart and sings it. Sometimes I even see tears in her eyes.

Now that I'm older, I no longer see the picture on the mantle as just my grandfather who so happened to be a soldier, but as a Brave Soldier who went to War and gave his very all to his country and paid the steepest price, the slow loss of self. And next time my mom stands up, and places her hand over her heart and sings the "Star Spangled Banner" I think I'll stand up right there next to her.

Getting Cold and Snowflakes in the Tropics

It's starting to get cold here. I'm sure it's cooler than 83ºF. Go ahead and laugh, smile, whatever you want, I would be wearing long sleeves right now if it weren't for the itchiness anything too close to my skin causes.

I've been making a crochet snowflake. The hardest part is Rounds 1 to 3, because there is nothing to grab, but then, that always happens when I use thread. Plus, I have to get used to it all over again. Still, here it is, and it's going to someone who lives here on the island. :)

Currently Reading: The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan

This is one of all-time favorite novels, The Pilgrim's Progress. I first heard of it when I read Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott, when I was 9 or 10 years old. I have read it over twenty times since, and it is such a sweet story that I just had to find out what The Pilgrim's Progress was all about, since it seems to be so entwined with it.

I have my own journey, and it has been at times easy, and at times very difficult. Maybe you, too, would like to see what it's about? This is what it is all about, and I hope you like it.

The Pilgrim’s Progress

John Bunyan was a man unafraid to proclaim the authority of God’s Word without compromise, even when it came at great personal risk. His refusal to conform his preaching led to multiple incarcerations. On one such occasion, he was asked to simply stop and be set free. He replied, “If you release me today, I will preach tomorrow.”

Those now famous words led to a nearly twelve year imprisonment. It was during this time that he began to pen his classic work. Published in 1678, it quickly became one of the most popular stories of all time. Over 100,000 copies were sold within his lifetime alone, and today it is believed to be the second-most widespread book in existence, surpassed only by the Bible in number of copies distributed. It has been translated into over 200 languages, and it has never been out of print.

The Pilgrim’s Progress is a spiritual allegory that follows the path of Christian, a man weighed down by his burden of sin. I know some Walgreens do compounds, but most do not. Even if they say they do, they don't do the type of compounding that you would need done for corn-free.

Each state has its own little rules for scripts, but basically scripts need:
drug name (for compounding, the generic name may be preferred)
amount of drug per dose/pill (ex. 25 mg)
directions on how to take it - twice a day, once a day, as needed...
quantity of drug to release at a time (50 pills)
Refills (number of refills)

In addition to the dosage mine writes corn free gluten free and preservative free on the prescription. But everyone is correct my compounding pharmacist spoke with my Doctor to explain what I needed and how they would accomplish it. Even after all these years they still need to chat every once in awhile.

This just in: Congress is assuming control of all your personal economic decisions. Or so says Judge George Steeh, who yesterday became the first man ever to rule on the constitutionality of the new health care law. The suit, brought by our friends at the Thomas More Law Center, argued that it's an abuse of power for Congress to order Americans to buy health insurance. Judge Steeh disagreed, insisting (in his 20-page opinion) that the federal government has a "right" to force citizens to buy products whether they want them or not. Of course, there's nothing in the Constitution to support that argument. Nowhere does it state that citizens can be required by an act of Congress to purchase anything--including insurance policies. But that didn't matter to Judge Steeh, who also struck down a challenge over the financial penalty imposed on people who don't buy insurance. "The minimum coverage provision... is a reasonable means of effectuating Congress's goal," he wrote.
It all boils down to a very complicated debate over the U.S. Commerce Clause and whether it gives the government the power to bar "commercial non-activity." The Obama administration is arguing that inactivity (i.e. not buying insurance) is a form of interstate commerce. Think about that for a second. The government is suggesting that "doing nothing" is something to regulate. How ridiculous is that? To expand its power, Washington is literally making something out of nothing. Thomas More's Rob Muise talked about where this twisted logic could lead. "If Congress has authority to regulate non-activity then it has the ability to regulate anything," he said. "Congress can tell you to exercise three times a week, to take certain vitamins, to refrain from eating certain foods because, at some point, costs are going to be incurred to the health care market. I find that very troubling when we have a federal government that's supposed to be of limited, enumerated powers." Troubling enough, Muise said, that his organization plans to appeal.
Meanwhile, the health care law is already under fire in two other courts. Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is fighting to overturn ObamaCare in Richmond's federal district court while his Florida counterpart, Bill McCollum, is leading 20 other states into a massive court battle in Pensacola. Yesterday's decision won't interfere with either of those challenges. Eventually, the law will make its way to the U.S. Supreme Court. And when it does, let's hope it appeals to the justices' better judgment.

I just got out my Crochet Harvest Scarecrow, crocheted some years ago for my husband to put on the sofa at his studio, but now I have it here. I really like it, but I wish the neck were more firm.

I'm thinking of making another one, and later, some doilies or coasters using a gold cotton thread, with a gold filament going through it.

This is for a baby boy, born about a month ago. Not any of my neighbors told me he had already been born. I just saw the grandmother's car with a sign that said 'IT'S A BOY!" so I started to crochet (Beth's Little Star Afghan) . Not much yarn, but this is what came out. Perhaps it would have been better with more solid blue, but it's already been given to the new mother.

Next time will make a yellow star, then use the Bernat Softee Denim Blue, then the Pale Blue on the outside. Might look better.

You Do NOT Have the Right to Be Happy

It's true. You do NOT have the right to be happy. People think this is in our Constitution, but it is not. Read it, read the whole thing, and you won't find it.

What you WILL find is that you have the right to pursue happiness. That's different now, isn't it? We really have to get this right, or else a lot of people are going to be miserable, more than they already are.

While we're at it, happiness comes from "happening" and doesn't last very long. You're going to do a lot better by pursuing joy, eternal joy:
