Blue Shawl, Finally

I am practically finished with my blue shawl.  I'm adding a single crochet edging to it, making sure to add three stitches into each corner.  I'll add fringe it in, but am unsure how much to add.

I'll post picture tomorrow and you all can tell me if  I should add fringe, and how long.

More on the Situation on Our Island

People are growing desperate.  A grown man even threw an egg at the governor.  There is much anger and I fear that it can escalate into violence.  The students at our state university, their student council, that is, voted to ??? forgot the word in English.  They voted to boycott classes to make a statement that they are supporting the workers who were fired.

Today I heard on the news about several homes where both parents are now without jobs.  Some pregnant women were laid off, too.  Even a cancer survivor, who went to work even on her bad days. 

I also heard on the news that there will be a national work stoppage sometime next month.   I pray that there is no violence.  This is simple:  You cannot spend more than what you earn, because sooner or later, and it's usually sooner than you thought, it will catch up with you, and you'll have to "pay the piper."  This is a situation which has been accumulating for a few decades already.  You cannot, you MUSTN'T have a bloated government.  Why?  Because it is not a company.  A government does not sell a tangible product.  It provides services.  Therefore, we most certainly cannot spend more than what we take in.  If this were an automaker, the federal government would have made sure they went into bankcrupcy and paid their bills.

I'll spell-check tomorrow.  Well, maybe.  Perhaps.  Could be.  I might.  I might not...

Sad Day Here on the Island

It's a sad day in Puerto Rico.  Over 14 thousand people have been fired.  Yes, government employees, but many many are family people, just trying to keep body and soul together and feed their families.

I can't say what should be done.  I think that there must be something that can be done here to use money more efficiently, less projects to benefit buddies and more, and other things that can be done (sorry, Neurontin fogs me).  I understand that a country cannot function well  with a bloated government payroll, I do understand that, but it does not stop me from feeling sad and wondering what are they going to do now.

So many people want "peace like a river."  I finally found this phrase in the Bible, and it's a beautiful phrase.  And, besides, I always want peace... But, the phrase immediately afterward also calls my attention: "righteousness like the waves of the sea." 

Shall we heed His commandments? If so, we shall have both.

International Crochet Day?

It seems I missed the bus. I completely forgot it was International Crochet Day. I didn't celebrate it. In fact, I didn't celebrate anything, although I did crochet.

The only thing that happened here was that my Susan Bates Size H crochet hook is missing. It's irritating distressing, upsetting saddening... I'm running out of adjectives here. I already started on my Pretty Blue Shawl, which is oh, about 5 feet long, and now that hook has the GALL to disappear. I admit nothing. It's missing. I don't go around losing hooks, not I!!! Unheard of!!

But, yes, I am upset. And I've been sick since last night. Started with post-nasal drip, and I thought: Allergy. But no, AJ is sick, My Danny Boy was sick earlier this week for about 3 days, and The-Recording-Engineer-I-Call-Husband has a scratchy throat, too. This is so uncool. Can't crochet well with my eyes all itchy and watery, and everything hurts, and now my hook decided to explore the house! Sheesh! Even my nails and hair hurt.  When you're as sick as I am, or THINK you're sick and need Mom's Chicken Soup, you're nails and hair hurt.  Yes, I know, Pity Party, but I hope that on International Crochet Day I'm entitled to that at least, seeing as how I missed it.

Well, and since I like posting pictures, here's a picture of some yarn I bought to make a scrunchy for my DD. This yarn is really a sort of turquoise color, not plain blue. Well, for someone who is sick, I sure am "talkative".

I have two flowers in my garden.  I don't know what these are called.  Perhaps they are lillys.  We have yellow ones, too.  Sure wish I had some white ones.  Whenever I see the pink or white ones, something inside me feels happy.
