To Fring Or Not To Fringe

that is the question.  Does this shawl need fringe?  (Dave, any jokes about "lunatic fringe" and you're in trouble).

I think it depends on where you wear it. I used to wear a fringed scarf or take a fringed blanket to my son's baseball games & it was always getting leaves etc caught up in the fringe. I think it will be pretty either way, but I like it better without :)

No fringe! Fringe is evil, it's always getting caught where you don't want it to or pickin' up things that it shouldn't ought to be pickin' up. It's a very pretty shawl, it should be fringeless! :)

It's for going out. Like to a restaurant, or the movies, or to visit friends in far off places. Or to church, on a special occasion.

nice shell /scallop edging would look really nice. think of how often the fringe will get tangled/caught when you walk by something stickig out of te wall edging.

I agree. A simple edging instead of fringe. Or if you really want fringe, how about a looped fringe instead?

Mitzy, I think I *do* want fringe... But I'm reading everybody's post, here and at Crochet Partners, too. So far, I'm leaning towards the fringe, only shorter. It does seem to need something.

I don't like fringe but some items just need something. How about a twisted fringe shown here: http://www.charmknits.com/fringe.htm
You could also use a crocheted fringe where you sc a chasin x number of stitches depending on how long you want the fringe, then sc back up the chain, reconnect to the edge & sc 1 on the shawl then repeat across the edge. This will make a fringe without the annoying fuzz or yarn end that becomes untwisted.

On a simple shawl showcasing lovely yarn, I'd use plain fringe as shown; but shorten the fringe by tying it at another level, or two. I guess I don't have the terminology for what I've done. Sorry.
