The Rules

At one point during a game, the coach said to one of his young players, "Do you understand what cooperation is? What a team is?" The little boy
nodded yes.

"Do you understand that what matters is whether we win together as a
team?" The little boy nodded yes.

"So," the coach continued, "when a strike is called, or you are out at
first, you don't argue or curse or attack the umpire. Do you understand
all that?" Again, the boy nodded yes.

"Good," said the coach. "Now go over there and explain it to your
mother."

First Lady Quote

"Maybe it is the media that has us divided."

First lady Laura Bush

Broken Leg

An elderly lady, who lived on the third floor of a boardinghouse, broke
her leg. As the doctor put a cast on it, he warned her not to climb any
stairs.

Several months later, the doctor took off the cast.

"Can I climb stairs now?" asked the little old lady.

"Yes," he replied.

"Thank goodness!" she said.

"I'm sick and tired of shinnying up and down that drainpipe!"

Journey to the Center of the Earth

Now, I don't watch movies, well, hardly ever, and I DON'T WATCH ACTION MOVIES at all!!! But, I liked watching this trailer. Hope you enjoy it. Me, this is about as close to an action movie as I'm going to get. I already chickened out on watching Iron Man, too. I just can't take all that action. I know, I'm a coward!

Honda Comercial: One Take

I like this commercial because it was done in ONE take. Took them months to be able to do this feat of engineering. Enjoy!!!

Construction site

The strong young man at the construction site was bragging that he could
out do anyone in a feat of strength.

He made a special case of making fun of one of the older workmen.

After several minutes, the older worker had had enough.

"Why don't you put your money where your mouth is?" he said.

"I will bet a week's wages that I can haul something in a wheelbarrow
over to that building that you won't be able to wheel back."

"You're on, old man," the young guy replied.

The old man reached out and grabbed the wheelbarrow by the handles.

Then he turned to the young man and said, "Alright. Get in."

WIM

THIS is my next WIM. I like shawls a lot, because I can warm up the parts of my body that need it, while keeping other parts cool where I need it, especially when I go to church. Plus, I think I'm a little old-fashioned, although they are very fashionable these days. Anyway, as soon as I finish my current WIPs, I'm going to make this for myself.

Today

Today is a good day. NOT because I have no pain, because I do. NOT because I have no troubles, because I do. NOT because I have no problems, I have plenty, and plenty to share.

NOT because things haven't gone wrong, because thing did.

NOT NOT NOT...

It's a good day because I went to church in spite of it all, and to be in the house of the Lord "one day" is better than a thousand out of it. It's been a good good day!

And... to all the fathers who read this, I salute you and wish you a blessed day today!

My Very Own Quote

At least, I *think* I came up with it:

Ignorance has a cure. Stupidy doesn't.

And, in case you're wondering what the cure is, it's Information.

Unmasking the Fairness Doctrine

Please write to your senator and your representative. Can you imagine the hours and hours and hours of just talk on ANY radio, or any TV station, for that matter? Of people presenting opposing view of EVERYTHING, even in commercials, if they get to nitpicking.

July is National Make a Difference to Children Month

July is National Make a Difference to Children Month
But the caring volunteers of the HUGS and HOPE Foundation make a difference every day

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Take a minute to influence the life of a child and Make a Difference - one smile at a time!
Do you love to hear kids laugh and see them smile? Critically ill children often have little to be happy about, but you can easily make a difference for kids with serious illnesses, injuries, or handicaps. If you can lick a postage stamp and drop a card in the mail, you can be part of a nation wide effort to put more joy into the lives of children in pain

We can't take their pain away; but we can help make life a little more tolerable by sending a cheery card and a little love to children battling life-threatening conditions. The HUGS and HOPE Foundation, a nonprofit charity created by a disabled grandmother after her grandson was badly burned, touches the lives of hundreds of kids across the country.

On the HUGS and HOPE web site (www.hugsandhope.org) you can read stories and view photos of kids who need a little extra TLC to help them get through surgeries, hospitalizations, and endless medical tests.Visitors to the site are asked to mail cheery cards and small gifts to each sick child and notes of encouragement to the parents. This web site will inspire you to help critically ill children and their families not just on Make a Difference Day, but everyday.
"We like to remind the children that they are cared about and they are special," says Marsha Jordan, who founded the group in 2000. We want to help these kids forget, for at least a little while, that they're fighting for their lives. "We call the cards and packages we send "happy mail" because we hope they put smiles on the kid's faces.

Jordan was recently interviewed on the By, For, and About Women radio show (www.byforandaboutwomen.com/marshajordan.htm ) Listen to the interview to learn more about HUGS and HOPE.

"Anyone can help," says Jordan. "You don't have to perform life-saving surgery or deliver cancer-killing chemotherapy. All you need is a heart of compassion. Whatever your age or ability, you can make a difference in the life of a sick child." Sending happy mail is a great family project, teaching kids compassion for those less fortunate than themselves and providing quality family time to boot. And all it costs is the price of a postage stamp.

Jordan is available for interviews. Call 715-282-7271 or email hugsandhope@gmail.com .

Those wanting to learn more about the HUGS and HOPE program are encouraged to visit the website at http://www.hugsandhope.org.

Melting Here...

I can't believe that it's only supposed to be 82. It's hot, muggy, and I'm melting. I'm getting out of this room and closer to a window. I just hope this storm is going to cool things up a bit.

Salmonella Poisoning Through Tomatoes?

We went to Burger King today, and they had a notice that they were NOT serving tomatoes. I was wondering why and just came across this article in one of my emails. Didn't know it was happening.

I think I WILL grow our own tomatoes.

Early Afternoon Conversation

Eddie bought me a new washing machine. Our old one, which was supposed to have lasted from 13 to 15 years, only lasted 7, and that, having invested an additional $200 to fix it last year. It's a Maytag. It's supposed to last a long time. Well, that darn machine has been nothing but trouble, and the refridgerator, too, which is also a Maytag. Hmph! No more Maytags for me. Two lemons too many.

So this machine is one that is supposed to use about 53 percent less water and 40 percent less electricity. He's been over an hour installing it and explaining how it works, no agitator in the middle, jet ??? something that wets the clothes and turns it over and it's blue, sort of like a car. Suddenly, he places his elbows and arms on it, and, it can't be a hug, can it? and this is what happened...

Ed: "I really LOVE this machine!"
River: "Oh? I thought you loved me!"
Ed: I love you MORE than I love this machine.
River just looks at him
Ed: "Lots lots MORE than the machine!" By now I think he knows what's coming...

River just looks at him and replies: "Let's see how you're gonna dig yourself out of THIS hole."
Pause.
Looks back at me, and I know what's coming.

Ed: "I'm stupid!"

I'm keeping this guy, for better, for worse, and for keeps!

A Million Dollars

Once there was a millionaire who collected live alligators. He kept them in the pool in back of his mansion. The millionaire also had a beautiful daughter that was single.

One day he decides to throw a huge party, during the party he announces: "My dear guests, I have a proposition to every man here. I will give 1 million dollars or my daughter to the man that can swim across this pool full of alligators and emerge unharmed!"

As soon as he finished his last word there was the sound of a large splash! There was one guy in the pool swimming with all his might, the crowd cheered him on as he kept stroking. Finally, he made it to the other side unharmed.

The millionaire was impressed, he said, "My boy that was incredible!
Fantastic! I didn't think it could be done! Well, I must keep my end of the bargain, which do you want my daughter or the 1 million dollars?"

The guy says, "Listen, I don't want your money and I don't want your daughter... I want the person who pushed me in that water!"
